  • Sue Wiid

    South Africa

Hi, My name is Sue and I am an experienced ESL Teacher. I specialize in Business English, IELTS Speaking test preparation and Conversational English. My qualifications include a BCom degree in Industrial Psychology, BCom Degree in Risk Management, TEFL and various other courses related to business and teaching.    I have taught English in many different countries and my experience ranges from one on one tutoring to private academies, language centers and public schools. My experience prior to teaching includes 7 years in IT Risk Management in a banking environment as well as Health and Safety experience and teaching Behaviour based safety to adults.   My philosophy as a teacher is to motivate students to do their best and extend their own personal limits. I always endeavour to devise programs, according to syllabus requirements, that expand on previous knowledge and encourage students to explore new and interesting possibilities.  I present classes that involve the interests of the students and makes learning relevant to life. In my view all teachers should try to instill a love of learning and to make learning exciting and interesting. I am confident that my experience and skills will be an asset to my students learning and development.  For myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about teaching. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I looking forward to meeting you and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.

  • Michael Burland

    America

Hello everyone! I am teacher from the USA who is passionate about teaching English as a second language. I always look forward to delivering the best lessons that I can and I always do my best to try and learn from each and every experience. I graduated from University back in 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Education. From there I decided I wanted to travel a bit and looked at ways in which I could do that. I came across the idea of teaching English as a second language. I decided to get a CELTA certification because I read about how prestigious is is in the ESL world. In 2014 I received my Pass B CELTA certification and was ready to start teaching. Currently I am progressing my CELTA certification even further by becoming DELTA certified. In April of 2015 I finally found a job that I felt comfortable with and decided to go for it! I ended up in Arequipa, Peru thinking I was only going to be here for three months. After leaving over a year later, I knew I had found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was there that I fell in love with teaching English as a second language. In Peru, I taught English to mostly young adults; however the age range was anywhere from 10-60+. I was also able to teach all different levels of English from beginners to advanced students. It was really a great first job for me as I received so much experience. I also did a lot of private tutoring in Peru and tutor many different students in conversational English or test preparation (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.) After Peru I landed a job in South Korea in the summer of 2017. This job is much different than the one I had in Peru as I am teaching mostly young children (6-10 years old). I have been in Korea ever since and continue to find different reasons for loving what I do. Both of the schools I have worked at have been great in terms of my professional development. I am in charge of creating my own lessons and teaching the subject matter as I see fit. I am growing as a teacher everyday and learning new ways in which to become a better teacher. In terms of my philosophy, I always try to make learning fun and enjoyable for everyone involved. If you don't love what you are teaching or learning you will not succeed. Since it is a language, to me the best practice is having the learner speak as much as possible. It doesn't make sense for the native speaker to do the majority of the talking because we aren't the one's trying to learn the language! I also understand that everyone is different, wants to learn English for different reasons and learns better in different ways. I am always willing to listen to what my student wants out of the classes and adjust my classes depending on what that is. I am incredibly flexible, adaptable and always looking to be a better teacher. A little bit about myself. I love to travel, have been to around 10 different countries and I am always looking to expand that number. I myself love to learn languages too and understand the difficulties when it comes to learning a new language. I can speak Spanish fairly well and am currently trying to learn Korean. I have also recently gotten into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I am about 1 year in and I love every minute of it. The challenge of it is very appealing to me and it seems like no matter what, you can always improve. I hope to meet you soon and look forward to our future classes together!

Dear Students, Welcome, and let's get to know each other before your lesson :D I have a lot of experience (4 yrs) of teaching the English language to both children and adults, especially when it comes to conversational skills! One of the things that I would like to mention is that I was an entertainer working all around the world before I graduated and started teaching. Furthermore, I've been working for a few online companies and gained a lot of experience in this field of work. What I love about being a teacher is actually being able to share knowledge with my students and getting to know them along the way. While working as an Online English teacher I've met so many amazing people and we got to share so many fun and interesting stories! All of my students told me that they absolutely love my classes and that they feel great for the rest of the day :D In addition to being qualified and having a diploma, I believe that a teacher has to be able to establish a safe and relaxed studying environment for their students because only then learning becomes fun and easy!

  • Alexandra McDonald

    South Africa

Hello there, my name is Alexandra, but you can call me Ali. I am 29 years old, and I am from beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. I’m a native English speaker, so I will be able to answer any questions you may have. I’m also learning Korean, (안녕하세요!) so I understand how difficult it can feel sometimes to learn a new language. Well done for taking this brave first step! I have a TEFL certificate and 4 years of teaching experience. I started teaching English in Vietnam 4 years ago, and completely fell in love with it! Since then I have taught in Vietnam, and now I teach privately in South Africa. I have taught a variety of ages, from very young kids of 3 years old, to young adults. I’m very caring and supportive in my classes. This is a safe space to have fun, make mistakes and learn together. I believe we all learn in different ways, and that is very important to me. If you or your child would like to learn beginner phonics, or if you’d like to improve your conversation skills, business English, or if you need help preparing for tests – I can help you through it all. Please let me know if you have any questions, we can talk before classes and I will see you soon!

  • CHRISTINE BORG

    United Kingdom

I am a qualified TEFL teacher (level 5 certificate). I have taught English to foreign students, from children to adults, from basic, through intermediate and up to advanced level. At Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, where I studied for my Masters Degree, I received professional training in English pronunciation and accents. During my TEFL classes in a Language School, I used all the experience I obtained during my TEFL and my Drama training. Improvisation also came into good use in helping my students with conversation in situational settings. Besides TEFL, I have also worked as a replacement teacher in the Junior classes at San Anton School, Malta. There, I was also the final year, Senior class Drama Teacher. In total, I have 4 years teaching experience and lately I have been doing a good amount of Online English teaching and would like to pursue as much of this as possible.
